The University "Prof. Dr. Assen Zlatarov" is the biggest State University under Ministry of Science and Education in the southeast of Bulgaria. It includes 3 faculties:

Technical Faculty,
Faculty of Natural Sciences,
Faculty of Social Sciences,

and 3 colleges:
College of Medicine,
Technical College,
College of Tourism.

The University has a considerable scientific potential. Today about 3000 students are enrolled for a Bachelor or Master degree in 25 different subjects. The academic body of the University has significantly contributed the success of European Community financed programmes, such as TEMPUS, COST, PHARE.
The University is accredited by the National Agency of Evaluation and is authorized to award all educational degrees in the specified fields of education.

The speciality Chemical Engineering has been created by the decision of the Academic Council in 1991. The educational schedules for bacelor’s and master’s degree include subjects formatting the general chemical engineering skills and knowledge. They are similar to those in UCTM, Sofia.
