The University of Food Technologies (UFT) in Plovdiv has a semi centennial history and rich traditions. It is a successor to the Higher Institute of Food and Flavour Industries (HIFFI) founded in 1953 as an education and science centre in the area of food technology. UFT is accredited by the National Agency of Evaluation and s authorized to award all educational degrees in the specified fields of education. At the beginning of the new 21st Century, the University of Food Technology employs an impressive, highly qualified scientific and teaching specialists and provides training in modern and up-to-date programmes.

Plovdiv, the hometown of the University of Food Technologies, ranks second in size and importance after Bulgaria’s capital Sofia.

There are three faculties in UFT:
Technological Faculty
Technical Faculty
Economic Faculty

The Technological Faculty programmes for bachelor’s degree are as follows:
Meat and Milk Technology; Technology of Grain, Fodder, Bread and Confectionery Products; Wine and Bear Technology; Preservation and Refrigeration technology; Technology of Oils, Essential Oils, Perfumery and Cosmetics; Technology of Sugar, Sugar Products, Starch and Starch Hydrolysates; Tobacco and Tobacco Products Technology; Biotechnology; Fermentation Products Technology.

Three of the programmes are offered in French language: Wine Technology; Milk and Dairy Products Technology; Technology of Bread, Bread Products and Confectionery Products.

Technical Faculty programmes are formed on the basis of the existing technical programmes preparing mechanical engineers and automation engineers for the food, flavour and biotechnological industries. The faculty currently comprises 7 departments. Three of them provide general training: Engineering Mechanics and Machinery; Process Engineering; Electrical Engineering and Electronics. Four of them provide specialized training: Automation, Information and Control Equipment; Industrial Heat Engineering; Machines and Apparatus for the Food Flavour Industry; Computer Systems and Technologies.

The Technical Faculty programs towards a Bachelor’s education and qualification degree
are as follows:

  • Mechanical and Instrument Engineering.
  • Heat Engineering.
  • Automation, Information and Control Equipment.
  • Computer Systems and Technologies.

The Technical Faculty graduates can work at manufacturing companies and facilities as
engineers, designers of heat and mass exchange apparatus and devices for the heating, fuel, refrigeration, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, designers of machines, apparatus and equipment for the food industry, engineers in the mounting, set-up and operation of machines and apparatus, technical devices and computer systems for production process control.
