Scientific research
The main UCTM’s scientific priorities are:
- Technological and energetic efficiency in chemical and
metallurgical industry, alternative and raw material sources,
new materials, nanotechnologies, contemporary nonwaste technologies,
depth raw sources processing, constructive composite materials.
- Information systems in chemical engineering processes,
simulation and prototype formation creating technology and
infrastructure optimisation, technologies of network and
industrial management, technological process modelling,
software engineering automation of production, expert systems,
information systems and database, mathematical biology.
- Biotechnology (biotechnological products for food processing
industry and agriculture, pharmacy, bioconversion technologies.
- Ecology and environmental protection. (Influence or effect
of chemical and metallurgical technologies), industrial
waste utilization, natural resources and their protection
monitoring, systems of pollution diffusion (distribution)
modelling, energy production from renovated sources.
- Educational environment or surroundings and quality of
education.
The University scientific research is organized and headed by
the Scientific Research Center and there are unique spectra
of scientific trends in the fields of chemical technologies,
metallurgy, materials science, information technologies, biotechnologies,
etc.
There are more than 3000 national and more than 2000 international
scientific projects lasting for more than 40 years practical
work. Among them there are some precise theoretical projects
too.
There is a close co-operation between the UCTM’s Scientific
Research Centre and all Bulgarian scientific institutions working
in the fields of chemical technologies and metallurgy, as well
as with related Universities in Europe, Asia and America.
UCTM takes an active part in nearly all European scientific
programs – ERASMUS, COPERNICUS, COST, 5th and 6th programs,
etc. More than 500 Professors, Associate Professors, Post-Graduate
Students and many of UCTM’s students take part in these
projects.
There are more than 150 projects for the 2001/2002 academic
year.
