Bulgarian candidates, in order to study at the University of
Chemical Technology and Metallurgy (UCTM), have to pass an obligatory
entrance exam either in chemistry (test and logical problems)
or in mathematics.
Courses in UCTM are held in Bulgarian except two foreign language
specialties Industrial
Chemistry in French and Engineering
Chemistry in German) which require passing an extra French
or German
language test too.
There are two forms of education – full-time
and part-time.
The training process has the following order:
- obligatory, theoretical basis that gives the fundamental
knowledge in chemistry and engineering;
- specialized blocks of classes;
- diploma work or project.
The curricula of all UCTM’s educational
programs are considered and accepted by the University Academic
Council. They conform to the European ECTS system.
The undergraduated programs suggest 4–year education for
receiving the Bachelor
of Science educational degree.
For the next Master of
Science degree, at least one-year education is needed after
the Bachelor’s degree. Most of the MS programs are in
the same or similar scientific and professional field.
BS or MS graduates coming from other universities are offered
too.
There is a Technological
College integrated with the University. Students attend
a 3-year program, in order to receive the Specialist
degree. The College graduates may continue in Bachelor’s
programs under certain conditions.
Every year about 3000 Bulgarian students as well as about 80
foreign students apply for all UCTM’s
educational programs.
UCTM offers 5-year MS program Industrial
Chemistry in French where French speaking candidates can
apply directly after finishing secondary school.
The MS graduates, as well as BS under certain conditions, can
apply for the highest educational and science Doctor of Philosophy
degree. These post-graduate programs cover a wide range of science
specialties. The successful postgraduate students are awarded
the degree Doctor of
Philosophy.
The UCTM offers the full-time students as well as the graduates
different courses and programs organized and administrated by
Office for postdiploma
and parallel education to increase their educational and
professional qualification.
There is an additional option to graduate as certified Teacher
for specialized secondary school for all students who intend
to pursue a teacher’s career.
Full-time Bulgarian students may apply for a room
in UCTM hostels and for a grant if they meet certain requirements.
The annual educational fees are fixed according
to the Council of Ministers Decree.
The fees are paid twice a year.
